Position on Marijuana Decriminalization

"As an attorney, I have seen the inner-workings of the system for decades, it's one of the things that motivated me to now teach at the UNLV Boyd School of Law and serve in the legislature. Criminal justice reform is one of my top priorities as a legislator. And one of the facets of that reform is looking at the penalties associated with marijuana, revising how we are treating low-level, non-violent offenders, and looking at past convictions for low-level marijuana related crimes that would no longer be considered criminal activity under current Nevada statutes."

Comments

"For me, one of the most pressing issues in criminal justice is that of sentencing reform and how we can lessen the strain on both our system as a whole and our jails specifically. Our jails, particularly here in Clark County, need relief, and one of the easiest things we can do is to start getting low level, non-violent offenders out of lockup. There are, of course, any number of other areas of criminal justice reform, including marijuana and drug sentencing, that I would like to look at, and if you would like to discuss ideas and solutions, my door is always open for discussion.
