Holds office State House District 59
"We can save millions by ending mass incarceration for minor drug offenses, and we can make millions more taxing the sale of marijuana. We can take it out of the shadow economy, and create thousands of local jobs in an entirely new growth industry. We can take on the pill-mills fueling our opioid outbreak. We can fund youth programs that provide alternatives to the streets and provide college scholarships for our graduates.
The only thing holding us back is insiders in Tallahassee. We had to go around the legislature to force medical marijuana onto the ballot; then when we won, instead of opening the market to people like you, they created a cabal of billion-dollar companies competing for a handful of licenses that shuts out small businesses who can’t write big campaign checks. Look, it’s simple, what the Florida legislature did is frankly un-American. It’s not a free market, it’s an oligopoly. And if we open it up (sorry for the pun), this could really grow our economy."
