Position on Medical Marijuana

Governor Ducey signed Senate Bill 1494, which establishes regulations for the third-party lab testing of medical cannabis products sold at retail dispensaries. He also signed into law legislation reducing the fee associated with procuring a medical cannabis patient ID card. (Link)

In 2019, Ducey affirmed that his views on this issue have not changed. “I don’t think any state ever got stronger by being stoned.” (Link)

Governor Ducey opposed a 2016 statewide ballot initiative that sought to legalize adult marijuana use, stating, "I don't know how we make ourselves a stronger state or a better place through this initiative. Almost everything outside of our economy and education that I have to deal with in this state has a common culprit of drug abuse and addiction." Upon voters' rejection of the measure, he said, "Fortunately, Arizona is a place where common sense can still work. We fought very hard and we won this round." (4/28/17) https://azmarijuana.com/arizona-medical-marijuana-news/arizona-gov-ducey-speaks-marijuana-anti-marijuana-event/
