In a Facebook reply to a person's question about marijuana legalization Mesnard said, "I don't support legalizing recreational marijuana, not only because I have concerns about the possible effect on our state (in part based on what I hear from other states that have gone down that road), but also because I can't embrace a reality where we want people to smoke marijuana so we can get more funding for education. "Smoke pot for the kids" is not the best tagline in my mind." (10/13/18)
