Dependably good vote on cannabis and criminal justice issues.
Holds office U.S. House District 25
"Although he believes the measure will pass, Rep. Raul Ruiz said Tuesday that he voted against Proposition 64, also known as the Adult Use of Marijuana Act, or AUMA - California's latest attempt at cannabis legalization.
"That was a difficult one," he told The Desert Sun after casting a ballot in La Quinta. "For me, I weighted on both sides and at the end of the day the doctor came out in me and I voted to keep marijuana's use as a medicinal plant and for medical uses only."
When asked whether he supports medicinal use of marijuana on the national level, Ruiz replied, "Yes, I do support federal legislation to make it a medicinal use property. I do believe that the federal government should work with states who will legalize it in order not to have any conflict in its regulation or enforcement."
