A Tom Malinowski (D - NJ) LEGALIZE, TAX, AND REGULATE
Position on Marijuana Decriminalization

Supports Senator Booker's bill, the Marijuana Justice Act. Link

On marijuana -- I support decriminalization. I want law enforcement in my community focused on violent and property crime, not going after people for recreational use of marijuana. And I believe our drug policies should focus on the epidemic of addiction in our society, including the opiate crisis. One argument for liberalizing our marijuana laws is that in states where that has happened, doctors are prescribing fewer opiates. Link

“There’s no good rationale for locking up a lot of young people up for marijuana,” says Malinowski, a human rights activist. “And if that’s going to be our judgement going forward then we also need justice looking backward.” (10/29/18)

"I want law enforcement in my community focusing on violent crime & property crime. Criminalizing marijuana possession does nothing to ease real problems of addiction to dangerous drugs in our country." (1/11/18)
