Position on Medical Marijuana

2022 Raleigh News & Observer Voter Guide

SHOULD MEDICAL MARIJUANA BE LEGALIZED IN NORTH CAROLINA?

Yes.

In response to the question, "Justice Department Officials had instructed federal prosecutors across the country not to focus federal resources on individuals who were complying with state laws regarding the use of medical marijuana. As a judge, do you find this philosophy confusing?", Jones said: "Use of medical marijuana for medical purposes is distinguishable from use of marijuana for recreational purposes. One is based on need, and the other is based on volitional desire. I find this distinction sufficiently clear to eliminate any confusion on the part of the individual."
