Holds office State House District 15
"I oppose "decriminalization" in all cases - whether it be decriminalizing guns, decriminalizing drugs, decriminalizing immigration status, whatever - because quite simply I don't believe that it is a legitimate thing. Things ought to be either legal or illegal, i.e. what is not expressly forbidden (illegal) is legal. The idea that we have some things that are illegal but then somehow not punished does violence to the legal system. It encourages disrespect of the law and a kind of scofflaw attitude that some laws "count" and others don't. Rather than "decriminalize" something, just make it legal." "I have not seen any evidence that there is any medical use for marijuana." (NORML Candidate Survey 10/8/24)
