"This is a state's rights issue. The problem is for military personnel and the federal aviation administration, when we are dealing with flight safety, we do not want them to be on drugs while they are working with planes or flying planes. That is why at the federal level it needs to be illegal. The states can do whatever they want within your state. You can go to Colorado, whatever you want. At the federal level, the reason why we need to keep it that way is for the military and our transportation administration."
"In the 1970s, we had so many accidents on board aircraft carriers and military bases because people were high on marijuana. Whatever we want to believe, it does not affect your performance is false. When we talk about how we pay for it, FDIC insured, that's another issue. It has another issue that we cannot have military people and federal aviation administration personnel high on drugs. That is why you need to stay illegal at the federal level." 10/5/22 Virginia 10th Congressional District Candidates Forum (42:43)
