Candidate in race for State Senate District 2 on Tuesday, November 7, 2023
We cannot keep going back and forth on this. A decision was made. The voters have been clear that they support legalizing recreational use of marijuana by adults. We need to make a pathway for this industry.
There is no question that criminalizing marijuana was part of a plan to disenfranchise voters from communities of color. The history is clear about that. Not only should those incarcerated on non-violent marijuana possession charges, but the state should also provide a pathway for those who were incarcerated to enter the legal marijuana industry.
Medical cannabis should be readily available to those who benefit from it. That means dispensaries need to be nearby, multiple suppliers need to be able to enter the market, and there should not be a monopoly on the supply.
