A- Katrina Schaffner (D - AZ) LEGALIZE, TAX, AND REGULATE DECRIMINALIZE MEDICAL USE

Candidate in race for U.S. House District 5 on Tuesday, November 5, 2024

Position on Marijuana Legalization

"The war on drugs has disproportionately impacted communities of color and low-income individuals. It’s past time to address the failed War on Drugs. We must legalize marijuana and declassify it as a Schedule I drug under the federal Controlled Substances Act. We should incentivize businesses to start marijuana businesses that will create jobs and economic growth in local communities. Let’s finally end cannabis prohibition and support communities that have been harmed by the drug war." said Katrina Schaffner (Candidate survey response).

Position on Marijuana Decriminalization

"I support the decriminalization of the simple possession of marijuana. The majority of Americans support decriminalization. By decriminalizing, we can both support our local and state economies and also alleviate costs surrounding our justice system regarding processing marijuana-related charges and maintaining subsequent incarcerations." said Katrina Schaffner (Candidate survey response).

"I strongly support the decriminalization of marijuana possession and to expunge records for those with marijuana convictions over personal consumption and non-violent marijuana possession," said Katrina Schaffner (Candidate survey response).

Position on Medical Marijuana

"There are real health benefits regarding the use of marijuana, and I strongly support the use of physician-authorized medical cannabis. The science on this is clear, and after serving as a military family advocate, I know firsthand that physician-authorized cannabis can help struggling veterans. With a high service rate in our district that's above the national average, this issue is particularly important to our constituents." said Katrina Schaffner (Candidate survey response).
