Position on Marijuana Legalization

"I strongly support legalizing and regulating the responsible use of marijuana by adults, and I am hopeful that we will be able to pass Amendment 3 this November. Through legalization, we can prioritize consumer and public safety and generate significant economic benefits for the State of Florida." (Candidate Survey Response)

"I strongly support ending the federal prohibition of marijuana. The current federal laws are outdated and create real challenges for states that have chosen to regulate cannabis for medical and/or recreational use. Additionally, the federal prohibition has disproportionately impacted marginalized communities, leading to unfair, mass incarceration and long-term socio-economic disadvantages. By legalizing marijuana at the federal level, we will help keep more folks out of the justice system that never deserved to be there in the first place and ensure that state and local governments can properly regulate use in their state." (Candidate Survey Response)

"I am full support of the automatic expungement of non-violent marijuana possession convictions. The prohibition of marijuana has led to the disproportionate criminalization of Florida's Black and Brown communities, despite similar rates of consumption across all races and ethnicities. This inequity has resulted in long-lasting socio-economic consequences that extend far beyond the initial criminal charge, impacting employment, housing, education, and quality of life. We must support automatic expungement to help address these injustices and fight for fairer, more equitable criminal justice system." (Candidate Survey Response)

Position on Marijuana Decriminalization

"I fully support decriminalizing the simple possession of marijuana. The current criminal penalties for marijuana possession in Florida are disproportionately harsh and have led to social and economic inequality, particularly affecting our Black and Brown communities. Decriminalization is a crucial step towards rectifying these injustices and promoting a fairer legal system. When Black folks make up 16% of the state’s population, yet 46% of our incarcerated population, clearly systemic racism persists in Florida’s criminal justice system, and the decriminalization of marijuana can help reduce more people from being unfairly incarcerated." (Candidate Survey Response)

Position on Medical Marijuana

"I strongly support the legalization of physician-authorized medical cannabis in Florida, because of the well-documented benefits and relief that it provides for patients suffering from a wide range of conditions, such as chronic pain, epilepsy, and cancer. Currently, medical marijuana is legal in our state, but lawmakers have gone out of their way to over-regulate, creating laws that restrict access to patients. As a State Representative, I will advocate for policies that expand access to medical cannabis and help ensure that Floridians receive the care they deserve." (Candidate Survey Response)
