C Brad Cook (D - WI) MEDICAL USE

When asked if he developed a stance on cannabis reform, his reply was "I do not have a fully developed stance on this and would appreciate any education you wish to provide. I can tell you that I would like to see fully legal medical marijuana in Wisconsin and an expansion of hemp and CBD options. My spouse works in law enforcement and I am hopeful to receive law enforcement endorsements through this campaign, so I will not be advocating for full legalization of all forms of marijuana at this time. Can we expand and improve technologies to strip the THC from products while still providing the pain relief and mental health benefits without the high? Law enforcement is pretty much at a point where they won't bother individuals using at their homes etc, but are still massively concerned with driving under the influence. I would be supportive of alternative forms and deregulation as long as it can be accomplished in a way that is palatable to the law enforcement community. I would also like to see some consistency in enforcement. Many individuals find themselves afoul of the law due to the enforcement differences between counties. I.e. what seems perfectly acceptable in Dane County would get you pinched in Columbia County etc. - source

Position on Marijuana Legalization

In an interview with the Wisconsin State Journal on July 18th and article entitled Candidate Q&A: 40th Assembly District (Democratic primary) candidate Cook was asked: What is one area where you stand apart from your party?

Cook: Many within the Democratic Party are pushing for a full legalization of marijuana. I support legalization of medicinal options, hemp production and alternative CBD products. I am however concerned with how we would regulate use and safety aspects related to driving and/or operating machinery under the influence that could affect others, and the law enforcement aspect of those regulations. - source
