Position on Marijuana Legalization

On rescheduling: "So the way that I would approach this problem… I operate as a database decision maker and want to see what the facts and the data are. I understand that this is in a research phase right now to more fully understand what the impacts would be. And I think that’s what we have to evaluate. We have to evaluate what’s the return on investment in terms of reducing recidivism. In terms of helping folks. I think on the medicinal side I think about the mental health crisis that we have in our country. There’s a small percentage of veterans that suffer from mental health issues and post traumatic stress and we’ve got to address that. This is not the single solution for it. But it might be a part of that and I want to see what the data shows on that. What I for sure don’t want to do from a security aspect is give any more power to narco terrorists. We saw the president take decisive action against a drug boat leaving Venezuela and this is a president that says what he’s going to do and he does it and he drew a clear line because that’s a danger to our society. And we’ve got to stop that. The other thing that I would do is ask our law enforcement. Pull the team together to understand what the impacts would be from a community basis. So that would be the approach that I would take to it." (9/5/2025)
