“As Chairman of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee, Senator Hoeven has worked to affirm tribal sovereignty, including strengthening tribes’ self-governance related to law enforcement, energy production and economic development. While the senator does not support legalizing recreational marijuana, he has voted to protect the implementation of North Dakota’s medical marijuana laws and will give careful consideration to any similar measures that are brought before the Senate on behalf of tribes.” 12/17/19
"States are determining how marijuana will be handled now and going forward. While Senator Hoeven does not support legalizing recreational marijuana, the senator has supported efforts to protect the implementation of North Dakota’s state medical marijuana law in the past and will review the language in the House amendment should it be considered by the Appropriations Committee." (August 2, 2019).
"I supported a provision that would prevent the Justice Department from using federal funds to interfere with states, like North Dakota, where medical marijuana is legal."
