Holds office U.S. House District 8
Candidate in race for U.S. House District 8 on Tuesday, November 8, 2022
"As a former U.S. Attorney, I have witnessed firsthand how narcotics like marijuana lead to further addiction and plague our communities. The MORE Act would only encourage more reckless use of the drug and undermine our law enforcement." (12/04/20)
... "However, I do not believe in the legalization of narcotics. As a former U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee, I believe strongly in enforcing our nation's drug laws and prosecuting those who break them. As such, while I am not a member of the aforementioned committees, I do look forward to reviewing their findings on H.R. 975. In addition, I will keep your thoughts on this issue in mind should further legislation come to the House floor." ...
"There are numerous provisions that I cannot support, such as funding for Planned Parenthood, medical marijuana programs and the bailout of Puerto Rico. I am also disappointed that the bill does not include cottonseed protection, which was thoroughly vetted, strongly supported and entirely paid for. I want to reassure Tennessee farmers that I am fully committed to correcting this wrong and seeing them through their current economic challenges.
