Now that over the half of the states in the United States have legalized some form of adult use marijuana, Senator Warren believes that the federal government should follow suit. He also beleives that cannabis companies should have the right to acess banking institutions.

When contacted by NORML a staffer responded, "Senator Warner supports the use of medical marijuana when used appropriately, and thinks that Virginia should "wait until there is more data from Colorado and Washington state" in terms of legalizing marijuana for non-medical use."
From Warner's office:
States like Virginia have enacted laws to permit adult consumption of cannabis, and the industry has limited or no access to financial institutions for fundamental banking services. These services are necessary to successfully operate businesses for what has become the fastest growing sector of the US economy.
That is why I am a proud cosponsor of the SAFE Banking Act. The bill would create protections for financial institutions that provide financial services to cannabis-related businesses.
Thank you for your interest in the SAFE Banking Act. I am honored to serve as your United States Senator, and am glad that you took the time to send me your thoughts.
