"Mississippi has long been a safe place for families to raise their children, however, if marijuana is federally legalized, our way of life will be at risk."

-- Adult use marijuana regulation is not associated with any upticks in criminal activity.

"As a father of three children, I understand the need to protect our families from the negative effects of illicit drug use."

-- Experts agree that marijuana use is not causally linked to the use of other illicit substances, and In jurisdictions where marijuana is legally accessible, adults typically report decreasing their use of other controlled substances. In this sense, marijuana appears to act more as a potential ‘exit drug’ rather than as an alleged ‘gateway’

"Allowing easier access to drugs [marijuana] would significantly compromise the safety, health, and well-being of indiviudals, families, and their communities"

--  Marijuana legalization is not associated with significant upticks in adolescent use, but is associated with declines in alcohol consumption, and increased job creation and tax revenue; all of which are positive effects on a community.

"As a father of three children, I understand the need to protect our families from the negative effects of illegal drug use. Drug addiction is a serious disease affecting many Americans. Allowing easier access to illegal drugs would significantly compromise the safety, health, and well-being of individuals, families, and their communities. In this regard, I oppose any legalization of illegal drugs, including marijuana. Although we may disagree, please know that I will keep your thoughts in mind should H.R. 499 reach the floor of the House for a vote."
