At a candidate forum in 2018, in response to the question "Should legalizing marijuana — medical or recreational — be explored in North Carolina?" Torbett said he would not support legalizing recreational marijuana, and "didn’t say either way on medical marijuana, other than that he would “rely on the medical professionals for that information.”
