Joe Biden has a history of supporting anti-drug, tough on crime policies as well as those that imposed punitive penalties for drug offenses and facilitated discrimnation against drug users.

Gianforte has expressed a lot of concern regarding medical marijuana, but has conceded that he will not push against access to medical marijuana for qualifying patients in Montana. He has been quoted saying that rescheduling marijuana is a "misplaced priority" and strongly asserts that there is not enough research conducted on the ill-effects of marijuana use.
